Two twin Ram Balers Power Production at New St. Helen's MRF

REP-TEC has supplied two SAMSON Twin Ram Balers for CEW's brand-new Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in St Helens.

By working together with the customer and plant builder throughout the design and installation process, the two balers could be integrated into the wider MRF layout and configured around the facility’s planned material flows, production targets and operational requirements.

Overview

As part of the development of a new MRF in St Helens, REP-TEC worked closely with the plant builder to deliver a baling system suited to the facility’s planned material flows and production requirements.

Two fully automatic SAMSON Twin Ram Balers were selected to provide the capacity required to process high volumes of recyclable commodities while producing dense, consistent bales.

The two-machine configuration also builds in a backup capability into the new operation. If one baler is unavailable for planned servicing, maintenance or an unexpected issue, the second machine can continue processing material and help keep production moving.

Capability & Flexibility from Day One

Operating together, the two SAMSON balers give the facility substantial production capacity and the flexibility to manage different recyclable commodities. This configuration will allow material to be directed between the two machines according to production requirements, while providing valuable backup capability when required.

Achieving the required bale density will help the operator maximise vehicle and container payloads, make efficient use of available transport capacity and control outbound logistics costs.

Energy-Efficient Performance with ECO-DRIVE

Both SAMSON balers are equipped with REP-TEC’s ECO-DRIVE control system, designed to minimise unnecessary electricity consumption without compromising bale density or throughput.

ECO-DRIVE uses inverter-driven motors and proportional hydraulic control to match oil flow and pressure to the machine’s requirements throughout the baling cycle.

Instead of operating continuously at full power, the system supplies energy according to demand. This gives the new facility an energy-efficient approach to baling while helping the operator control site power demand and operating costs.

Delivered in Partnership with the Plant Builder

Close collaboration between REP-TEC and the plant builder was central to the project.

By working together throughout the design and installation process, the two balers could be integrated into the wider MRF layout and configured around the facility’s planned material flows, production targets and operational requirements.

This was an opportunity to build capacity and flexibility into a completely new MRF from the outset.

Working closely with the plant builder allowed us to ensure both machines were effectively integrated into the wider facility. We have put a lot of work into our ECO-DRIVE technology and we know this will support energy-efficient performance from day one.

Designed for Long-Term Performance

The two SAMSON Twin Ram Balers will provide the new St Helens MRF with the capacity, flexibility and resilience required for a high-volume recycling operation.

By combining two-machine availability with dense bale production and energy-efficient operation, the system has been designed to support reliable performance and effective cost control from the facility’s first day of operation.

The installation is now entering its final stages, with both machines expected to become fully operational in the coming weeks.
